Carol Burnett in ‘Palm Royale’ on Apple TV+.

Veteran actress and comedian Carol Burnett stars in the new series “Palm Royale” on Apple TV+.

It was written, executive produced by showrunner Abe Sylvia; moreover, it is loosely based on the novel “Mr. and Mrs. American Pie” by Juliet McDaniel.

Aside from special guest Carol Burnett, the series stars Kristen Wiig, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, as well as Oscar winners Laura Dern, and Allison Janney.

The synopsis is: Palm Royale is a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig) as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society.

As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, “Palm Royale” asks the same question that still baffles us today: “How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?”

It is set during the powder keg year of 1969, Palm Royale is a testament to every outsider fighting for their chance to truly belong.

In the screen time that she has, Burnett steals every scene she is in as Norma Dellacorte. She is feisty, memorable, and downright hilarious; moreover, Burnett’s comedic genius is still at play.

Kristen Wiig works well with the material that she has, and Academy Award winners Laura Dern and Allison Janney are solid in their parts.

West Palm Beach feels like a character in itself in this series, which showcases rich housewives and the feminist movement of that era.

Carol Burnett truly deserves a future Primetime Emmy nomination for her noteworthy comedic acting work in “Palm Royale.” She is like fine wine where she only gets better with age.

In fact, each of the 10 episodes in the series offers something distinct, and it is feel-good escapism. While the dialogue at times may be clunky coupled with a thin and predictable plot, it is still worth checking out. It is quirky and fun. The groovy clothes will certainly put viewers into a time warp. Overall, “Palm Royale” garners a B+ rating.
