Actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson chatted about starring in “The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power” and “The Accountant 2.”
‘The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power’
This American fantasy TV series returns on August 29th on Amazon Prime Video.
On being a part of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” she said, “It has been such a big part of my life now because it has been a four-year journey for me, and the journey continues.”
“I am super excited for Season 2 to finally be out. We’ve been sitting on it for a year, and it’s time for the rest of the world to see what we have been up to in the UK,” she exclaimed.
On playing her character Queen Regent Míriel, she said, “I love the fact that she feels a genuine sense of responsibility to her people. Every decision she is making with her people in mind, and she is not taking that responsibility lightly.”
“We made her three-dimensional, and we really portrayed what it means to be raised knowing that one day you will be the leader of your people, which is an interesting thought,” she noted.
“In Season 2, they are giving me some interesting challenges, so I felt responsibility to make sure that I can navigate Míriel’s character through those challenges in a complex and strong way,” she added.
‘The Accountant 2’
She opened up about being a part of “The Accountant 2.” “The Accountant 2 has been amazing, and that’s another project that I cannot wait for people to see,” she said.
“When they announced that they were doing a second movie, there was a lot of excitement from the fans. It’s one of the projects that I get stopped all the time because there is a lot of love for that first movie,” she elaborated.
“I am really proud of getting to be a part of this film and a wonderful director, Gavin O’Connor. He is giving, intelligent and just so deeply embedded in the story, and he knows the characters so well,” she said.
“This is the first time that I get to revisit a character many years later,” she noted. “In my mind, Marybeth Medina has changed, and I, Cynthia, have changed grown, and evolved over the last eight years. It is cool to pick up on a story that people know really well but all of the characters have grown, changed, and evolved.”
“I think the audience is going to be really happy with ‘The Accountant 2’ because we are giving them what they loved from the first movie, but presenting a brand new puzzle and amping up the stakes,” she elaborated.
“A lot of people from the first film are evolved in the sequel, and it was wonderful to have that reunion and work with those people again,” she added.
The digital age
On being a part of the digital age, she said, “It’s funny because I don’t give a lot of thought to my place in that, if that makes sense. I know how to be a storyteller and that can take many forms, and it can happen in many ways.”
“I don’t necessarily give a lot of thought to the medium but the reach that you can have in this day and age is great,” she noted.
“These stories can reach the world over, so I am always amazed at how global everything is, in the best possible way, both as an actor and as a consumer,” she acknowledged.
“I think that’s a wonderful thing, especially to feel that people’s horizons have been broadened. At the end of the day, it’s about universality. I think that is a pretty cool thing,” she added.
Stage of her life
On the title of the current chapter of her life, she remarked, “The Open Road.”
“I am excited to see what lies ahead,” she admitted. “It has been a strange past couple of years, and I personally have had beautiful and lifechanging things that have been presented to me, and I have been open to seeing what each opportunity brings for the next.”
“I am looking forward to whatever is in front of me without knowing what that is exactly,” she added.
Advice for young and aspiring actors
For young and emerging actors, she said, “Make sure you have a good group of people around you because I do feel like the journey you take, as an actor or any artist, is not just an individual journey; it’s the people that are around you that support you and each other that are vital.”
“That makes a huge difference, especially if you have levelheaded, solid, and reliable people in your corner. If you don’t get that right, it can be toxic, and it can hold you back,” she acknowledged.
“The people who are in your life (whether they are professional, personal, family or friends) are crucial to your journey,” she added.
Superpower of choice
If she were to have any superpower, it would be to “pause time” while she plays “catch up.”
Success
Regarding her definition of success, she stated, “Success, to me, is about freedom of choice or selectivity, where you can choose how to spend your time and what to put your focus on, especially on the projects that you want to do.”
“So, the ability to dictate how your days are laid out is what success looks like to me,” she added.
Closing thoughts on ‘The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power’
For fans and viewers, she remarked, “With fantasy, there is an incredible opportunity for this huge canvas and the scope of it to allow for the smaller and more intimate moments between characters.”
“We have a lot of spectacles, battles, and creatures, but the reason why it endures is because it’s ultimately about the relationships of these characters to one another and their place in a larger world,” she elaborated.
“When you connect with it, in that way, the spectacle is a feast for the eyes. For it to really stay with you and make you think, it’s about the humanity of these fantastical characters,” she acknowledged.
“That is the thing that I always come back to,” she noted. “People are in for a big ride on this one, for sure,” she concluded.
