Singer-songwriter Ryder Beer chatted about his debut single “Can’t Take It,” which was released on Friday, November 17.

Background on Ryder Beer

Beer is a 21-year-old recording artist whose lifelong passions for music encompasses producing, drumming, and singing.

“When I was younger, I learned how the play the drums and that gave me a good concept of music and how music should be played. That was a defining moment for me because it made me realize that music is for me,” he said.

After high school, Beer was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to Berklee School of Music. While he attended for a semester, he found that the conventional teaching methods didn’t quite align with his learning style.

It was during this time that he felt a potent pull from the universe, leading him towards the studio, where he dedicated his self to honing his craft and paving his own way forward.

Beer listed The Bee Gees and Michael Jackson as his biggest musical influences. “Those were big ones,” he admitted.

He is the younger brother of pop singer-songwriter Madison Beer.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Beer said, “The Start.” “This is just the beginning,” he said.

‘Can’t Take It’ single

“I am super excited for the new single to come out,” he said. “It’s a little nerve-wracking but I’m excited.”

“I wrote the song wanting everyone to have a more relatable breakup song, and know that it’s okay to feel like things are coming to an end. I just wanted people to be able to relate to something like that,” he said.

“With this song, I want people to know that they are not alone, and it’s okay to feel like they can’t take it. A lot of people need to hear that it’s okay to end things. That’s okay, it’s life, and you can move on from things, and things can only get better, and that’s important to know,” he elaborated.

The digital age

On being a recording artist in the digital age, Beer said, “It’s hard because there are so many people that are trying to get into the field. It makes things very accessible so that’s exciting because I can get my song out there very easily.”

Advice for hopefuls in music

For young and aspiring musicians, he encouraged them to just give it a shot. “There is nothing that can go wrong, there are no wrong answers. If you believe in it, put it out there. Always follow your heart; your judgment is better than anyone else’s,” he said.

Dream collaboration choices in music

Beer listed Rex Orange County and Chris Martin of Coldplay as his dream collaboration choices in music. “You can’t go wrong with either of them; they are so talented,” Beer said. “I would also like to do a duet with my sister, Madison, and I really love Ellie Goulding.”

Superpower of choice

If he were to have any superpower, it would be “to see into the future.” “Then, I would be the smartest person in the world, if I were able to do that,” he said.

Success

On his definition of the word success, Beer said, “Success is accomplishing your goals that you set out to achieve. Also, doing something that you love and you enjoy, then that’s success.”
